The new Alien vs Predator is available for Pre-Order on Steam.

However, it's $64.99USD on the Australian site which is $71AUD.

On the UK site (http://store.steampowered.com/app/10680/?cc=uk ) it's £24.99, which is roughly $45AUD.

Pity I don't live in the UK to buy it though! :P

Blade, can't we just use some type of VPN or Proxy to buy these games, like we did for the Left for Dead 2 because I might be keen going into the 4 pack for Bioshock 2 (Not 100 % sure) since there are lots of good games coming out (Would rather Mass Effect 2 over all :P)

Well if one were to, oh I dunno use a similar method of buying Left4Dead2 from the UK store, you just might be able to get buy it.

1) Follow this URL: http://store.steampowered.com/app/10680/?cc=uk
2) Buy game (putting your credit/debit card "country" as United Kingdom)

Of course I didn't say that.

I can just see Valve cracking down on that soon. :/ I mean, L4D2 is one thing (due to censorship), getting a better price is another.

Too....many....games.

Is that $45 Aus a pre-order special?

I don't think it's a special, I reckon that's the price of the game when it's released. So you could wait for a release to see if it's any good.

They haven't cracked down on it since even when TF2 was released (censored in Germany)...?

Excellent. Heart steam.

Until the price gets a lot lower , its not worth supporting the Digital Download copy in Australia yet . Plus without trying out the a free demo or seeing what the retail ver ends up like it might just be a waste of cash . Too many games are a let down these days .

I might get the Classic rehash cheap one and not download it till they support Multi player while its cheap.

You'll never support steam. I'm just going to assume you will continue your stance of "it needs to be cheaper" until they give it to you for free.

Steam is already cheaper than buying from any retail store.

Activision titles aren't always cheaper. That aside, yeah they are cheaper but I understand, each man see's different value in the products they wish to purchase. If you think things need to be cheaper and you're willing to wait, that's cool. I see value in buying a game upfront, especially a multiplayer title as that's when the community is the strongest. A good community adds value too.

In fact my best game purchases of all time as far as value goes, would be TF2, L4D series, UT2004, Yoshi's Island DS and Plants vs Zombies.

All video games in Australia need their prices lowered. But it's not gonna happen lol.

Steam gives you good prices.

I think alot of people see disagreeing with a price a good reason for piracy.

Well I admit when I was younger I pirated fairly ruthlessly, but I had no cash, a poor excuse but one that sufficed. Now I'm older and all grown up, it's not about games being too expensive, it's that alot of games don't hold alot of value for me. So while I don't buy those games, I also don't pirate them either. In fact with advent of games gaining more value through Steam, ie by the price lowering to the quality of the titles, I've bought a fair few.

Technically though as a young man no one missed out on a game sale, as I wouldn't have been able to purchase them back then anyway.

That said I've nearly purchased everything I once pirated as a young man. Right now I can confidently say I am free from PC game piracy.

AvP isnt going to be multiplayer? No chance of me buying it then!

The rereleased AvP original will have MP soon.

AvP3 will support it out of the box, obviously.

St@ckboy:
I've bought several games on steam that were a lot cheaper then Retail
but AVP3 being the higher cost in Australia then UK/US is still the
annoying part of Steam , why should it cost higher in one country
then another . Its digital , no real life shipping is needed , so no added
cost should be added to different countries .

Infact it took me half of Saturday of the last Lan to update Steam
(Another reason I dont like steam it whores a bloat load of bandwidth)
I played Team Fortress 2 for a while and Installed a free LFD clone mod
that one person was getting a heap of people to install , then no one ended up playing it .

If AVP3 was listed in Australia Steam page for AU$20 to $40 then it might be worth supporting once Ive tired a demo and know if its worth getting but anything over 40 then the Real World Disc copy is looking better deal.

Not everyone has to like Steam or other Digital Download services .

Keep in mind Steam don't set prices, the publishers/developers do.

Also I think everybody will need to get used digital delivery, if not for the game itself for the unlocking of it. As retail stores more regularly break release dates, more and more games will require activation.

I wouldn't be surprised if consoles implement a similar feature too.

I've found I've been doing exactly the same thing as you. Not only that, I just don't have time to play that many games. Pirating takes too much effort and Steam and XBL are *mostly* quota-free on my ISP - another reason to use those.

Steam also brings up its more-or-less weekly specials, so there's usually something from the past that I feel like buying. All of these reasons mean that I rarely pirate.

Additionally, I find that Steam (except for fucking Activision games) prices are almost always good. I do think the price disparity per region is just crap, but it's easy to work around.

After all this is said tho, I'll probably guy AvP on the Xbox, just because it has coop and that I have Xbox LANs with my mates :) So many good games coming out recently!

w00t, just pre0rdered my UK version using visa (they can detect AU paypal accounts). found it kinda lame the region price differences (AU = 65USD / US = 50USD / UK = 35USD). Downloading that free RTS game now Universe At War: Earth Assault (looks cool, although got bad reviews). Skins looks interesting although I only bought it incase this supply and demand pricing window closed for the UK store.

When I went to the UK site it listed pounds not dollars. Are you sure that's $35USD.

Used XE.com currency converter, current currency 25 euros = 35 USD = 39 AUD

Compared to AUS steam store which is selling it at 65 USD = 72 AUD that is a 33 AUD saving.

Also, the game you get for free is complete crap, worst RTS game I have ever played. like a retarded version of starcraft. Though I only bought it due to price window with UK store (and the cool skins for aliens and predators - predator alien hybrid, will look epic in marines vs single predator mode).

EDIT: Here is a graphic of the new characters from the preorder -

The UK site is pounds, not Euros, check the symbol.

24.99 GBP = 44.7680 AUD

It's not much more, but still you should be aware.

72.4262 - 44.7680 = 27.6582 AUD

Still only 6 dollars more, still that is a 27 dollar saving, which I think is quite a mark down in comparison to Aus price. my benchmark is 50 USD for a game, I dont like paying more then that.
